Alice Welbes - National 4-H Champion Biography-2

Alice Sweeps 1932 State & National Canning Championships

By 1932, Alice had already won dozens of local and state vegetable, flower, and canning contests (and sewed all her ribbons into a six foot long table runner....).

As the winner of the Oregon canning contest, Alice won a trip to the National 4-H Convention in Chicago. There, she was awarded a $300 scholarship by the Hazel Atlas Glass Company for her 1st place entry in the Large Fruit canning category.

Alice was also awarded another $300 scholarship for her prize-winning "Best Balanced Menu" and Loganberry Jam recipe submitted to the 1932 International Canning Contest.
