John V. Schmitt - A Life Well Lived

John's active rowing career ended in the early 1930s, although he remained active in the sport. In 1946, Schmitt served on the Executive Board of the Philadelphia Chapter of Olympic Athletes; its President was his former teammate Ernest Bayer.

John and his wife Florence had three sons. They retired to Largo, Florida in 1966; he died in 1991 at the age of 89.
