A Life Well Lived....

Larry suffered several injuries during his senior year at Fresno State, and pitched sparingly. After graduating in 1968, the Boston Red Sox drafted him in the 6th round of the 1968 MLB January Draft. Larry declined, but he continued to successfully pitch with local semi-pro teams.
The Oakland A's drafted Larry in 1969, and played for the Lodi Crushers, a Class A team in the California League. In 1970, the San Francisco Giants signed him to a contract with the Decatur Commodores of the Class A Midwest League.
Larry Gonsalves compiled a career record of 12 wins and 16 losses and a 2.61 ERA in his 42-game pitching career with the Lodi Crushers and Decatur Commodores.
Over 50 Fresno State baseball stars have played in the Major Leagues. Due to injuries and perhaps just bad luck, Larry Gonsalves did not. However, his 1967 Perfect Game remains an achievement that has never been duplicated; he will always be a proud member of the Fresno State baseball legacy.
