Col. Frank Whitehead:
Retirement & Death
Col. Whitehead served in the office of the Commander in Chief of the U.S. Fleet from 1942-1944, and retired from the Corps in 1944. Upon retirement, he was promoted to Brigadier General. General Whitehead and wife Eleanor moved to Bethesda MD -- near Eleanor's cousin, Gale Heslop Sr.
By late June 1950, General Whitehead's cancer had become terminal, and he was admitted to the Bethesda Naval Hospital. He passed away on July 21, 1950, and was buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
