Alice Welbes - National 4-H Champion Biography-5

May 8, 2025

Dear Bob,

The BEAUTIFUL watch arrived safely today in its lovely Elgin case. It was even ticking! I was surprised at the
emotion that welled up in me when I opened your package. The watch had come home thanks to your diligence. And I felt tears when I thought that my wonderful mom had looked at that same watch's face and read the time so many times and that it touched her arm as she proudly wore it.
It definitely is a connection to her. And I didn't expect the canning booklet, as a bonus. I read the page you had marked and then found a Loganberry Jam recipe in the back of the booklet with her name and story about being a prize winner and attending Oregon State College. Thank you again.

What a gift you are to so many in this unique search for the owners of engraved watches.
Alice Rampton & Family

Returning Alice's 1932 Elgin to her Daughter Alice Rampton

I contacted daughter Alice Rampton through her Ancestry.com family genealogy, and Alice's watch was returned to her in May 2025. Daughter Alice did not know about her Mom's 1932 Elgin, although she was of course very knowledgeable about all her many accomplishments.

Alice reviewed all of her Mom's photos, and found several with Alice wearing her wristwatch. The photo below shows Alice Welbes around 1940, holding her youngest daughter Linda and proudly wearing her Elgin.
