“Our Pair without Coxswain – Pennsylvania Barge Club – McDowell (stroke) and Schmitt (bow) – defeated Belgium, England, and Italy; they were defeated by Germany in the Semi-Final.

[The re-admission rules] permitted England to get into the final with Germany (who won the race)…notwithstanding we had beaten the English crew previously”
