Clare Captures Three Diamond Thieves

On the afternoon of April 3, 1928, wholesale NY diamond merchant Albert Ginzberg emerged from a jewelry store with $100,000 of diamonds. He was accosted by three robbers at gunpoint, who forced Ginzberg into a waiting getaway car.  Patrolman Clare Davis saw the holdup and ran up as the car drove off. With the assistance of two other officers the car was caught after a short chase.

The three robbers were young Chicago punks --Herman Zeidman (22), Louis Goldman (22), and Al Bloom (21). By May 1928, all three pleaded guilty and were sentenced to long prison terms.
