The Hamilton Watch Company has a rich history spanning over 130 years. Hamilton was founded in 1892 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Watch : Hamilton earned its early reputation by producing ultra-reliable pocket watches of Railroad Accuracy, such as the Broadway Limited, which helped synchronize the American railroad system and prevent fatal collisions. By the early 20th century, Hamilton captured a massive share of the United States watch market with premium quality timepieces.
Hamilton launched its first wristwatches during World War I, adapting a 0-size movement to fit soldier's wrists in the trenches. In 1942, Hamilton completely halted civilian watch production to supply the U.S. Armed Forces. They delivered over one million watches, marine chronometers, and time-comparator instruments. However, the quartz movement invasion doomed Hamilton and the other US based watch companies; Hamilton ceased US production in 1969.
