Max's 1943 Alprosa Watch

"Alprosa" was a sub-brand used by the Enicar Watch company of La Chaux de Fonds in Switzerland from the 1920s - 1950s.

Max's watch is powered by Enicar’s own in-house 17-jewel movement. As noted in the 1943 advertisement, the Alprosa was directly marketed to servicemen; the cost was around $50 (about $900 in 2025!)

The Enicar watch company was a major player in Swiss watch making industry until it went bankrupt in 1988.

The Vintage Watch Inc. website (https://vintagewatchinc.com/enicar/) features a detailed article on the Enicar Watch Company history -- "Enicar Vintage Watches: History & Iconic Models." The article also has a link to a 2021 book about Enicar, entitled "Time For a Change: Discovering Vintage Enicar" (https://enicar.org/product/enicarbook)
