Coach Bill Gentry's 1963 Universal Geneve Presentation Watch

This 10kt gold Universal Geneve watch was presented to Coach Gentry by his undefeated 1963 State Championship football team.

As documented in a 1985 story in the Albuquerque Journal, this watch was one of Bill Gentry's most prized possessions:

"But hidden under his ever-present blue windbreaker, Gentry wears a ticking memento of hope on his left wrist -- a 10-karat-gold reminder of what can happen in the Class AAAA playoffs."

"It’s been though the wars; Gentry has replaced the winding step five tims, and he’s broken it in frustration more than once. Yet the watch – like Gentry’s dream of another state championship – keeps on ticking”

“It’s still good,” said Gentry, proudly showing off his prized possession to a visitor."

Universal Genève was a Swiss luxury watch company, founded in 1894 as Universal Watch. Since its beginnings, the company has produced complete watches with in-house movements, and throughout the 20th century, distributed many notable and important timepieces. Along with neighboring Geneva companies Audemars PiguetGirard-PerregauxPatek Philippe and Rolex, Universal was internationally regarded for its style of craftsmanship and manufacture
