Clare Davis - Career Police Officer
​
​Clare Davis was born in 1898 in Dryden, MI. He was an Army corporal in WW1, and served with the cavalry at Camp H. J. Jones in Douglas, AZ. In 1925, Clare married Belle Rockhill; they had two children, Clare D. and Delores.​
​
Clare served his entire career with the Highland Park police force, retiring as a detective. He died on April 23, 1990, and was buried in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in his home town of Dryden, MI.
​
Artist Andy Warhol proclaimed that “…everyone will be famous for 15 minutes”. Patrolman Clare Davis’ heroism on April 3, 1928 -- and his career integrity in the midst of often lawless Prohibition police forces -- certainly earned him his fame.
